Drive by posting to pimp two things!

First of all, I recently joined a lovely online book club comm that was recced by a friend. It's called [livejournal.com profile] bookdeyada_club and it's open to (and actively looking for) new members. I think it's going to be a lot of fun, so you guys should join too! My real life bookclub recently folded, so I'm hoping this will be a good substitute. Plus, the book that won for this month is Ash by Malinda Lo, which [livejournal.com profile] silly_cleo has been reccing to me for ages. And reading starts pretty much NOW, so it's the perfect time to join.

Also, it's fandom steel cage March madness again! Yay for voting and brackets! (Enough said.)

[ETA: Upon looking this over, I really think [livejournal.com profile] silly_cleo is influencing my exclamation mark use. There seem to be a lot in this small entry.]

At some point here I'll stop naming entries after Panic! and MCR lyrics, I promise. :)

So, I've spent part of the last week and a half learning to do podfic, which is awesome! I had tons of help/suggestions/feedback from [livejournal.com profile] podklb, so huge props to her. I've been wanting to give it a try for ages, but I wasn't quite sure how to get started. So when she posted about a multifandom project in her journal, I jumped right in.

The project was for [livejournal.com profile] halfamoon (a fourteen day challenge celebrating female characters in fandom) and we were using fics from The Awesome Ladies Ficathon. It's comment fic, so all the podfics are pretty short. The anthology contains 73 stories, from 41 fandoms, performed by 19 readers.

I ended up reading six fics: 2 Gilmore Girls (1 Literati, 1 about Lane!), 2 Gossip Girl (1 Blair/Serena, 1 about Nelly Yuki), 1 Daria and 1 Parenthood (about the Amber/Haddie cousin relationship). I love all the fics I read, and I can immediately think of people on my flist who will like various ones of them, so go check them out!

You can download the podfic (in various forms) here!! What are you waiting for?

I am definitely keen to do more podfic, but I'm not quite sure where to start. Do any of you ever listen to it? What fandoms? I listen to quite a bit, it's great for commuting, which is why I was so interested in the first place. I know there are various communities for podfic of different fandoms, but I need to do more research. At this point, I can't even think how you start to pick out a story to do, with all the fanfic that exists in the world! Any of you have any stories you have written/read and are just dying to hear in podfic form?

Okay, I just saw [livejournal.com profile] shiningartifact's post about the very same thing, and she's given the individual download links for her stories. I've got some time on my hands (ha!) so why not?

If you want to just download my individual stories, links & info under here. )

Trying to organise for Harry Potter is eating my brain. It's like, there is NO organisation to be had. This is what's happening:

1. Premiere is tomorrow night in Leicester square but of course we need to be there super early, which doesn't really work when some of us have jobs. So that problem has been there for a while but isn't any closer to solution. And now my boss wants me to go to the Embassy tomorrow afternoon, which may or may not help me out, I can't decide. I may end up queueing for hours. Blech.

2. Supposedly it wasn't showing at the IMAX (which I checked decades ago) until the 29th because of some sort of mix-up with Terminator and double booking and the moved HP premiere date from November. And yet...now it's showing there, as Claire pointed out today. But (of course) since IMAX showings sell out in like, seconds, it's full for a solid week and a half. So that will still have to wait a few weeks. Which is okay but not great.

3. Midnight showings (This is the one making me pull my hair out.) THERE ARE NO FRAKKING MIDNIGHT SHOWINGS. SERIOUSLY LONDON WTF?!? We thought for a while they hadn't posted them, but now that we've called some theatres it appears that is not the case. Oh no. They just aren't doing them. For Harry Potter 6. I repeat, WTF? So yeah, pretty much no way to make this any kind of "event" - we're just gonna have to wait until the next day after work and go to the movies.

I accept this isn't an exciting entry. But I needed to vent. :)
jenepel: (Buffy: Willow "bored now")
So I'm down to about half an hour before I'm leaving work, and I totally fail. I'm so completely bored and I don't think I can do any more taxes. I've had a really productive day, and my boss left like an hour ago, so I think I'm gonna forgive myself if I quit and write an LJ entry instead. (Plus, I gotta say it's impressive, given that I got about three hours of sleep last night...although not surprising.)

What I should work on is my ficathon entry, which is nowhere at the moment, still scribbling on a page and a few random paragraphs in my head. It's due next Monday, which gives me one week. For my first ever ficathon, first ever full length fanfic. Ab-fab. So yeah, maybe I'll scribble more on the tube today and then actually write something tonight. We'll see I guess.

Otherwise, life is as was. I'm pretty much over the VS thing, which was probably mostly me and my paranoia, and discussion there is proceeding as per the normal. I do need to think about other organisational things regarding that, so that I feel as if I'm accomplishing something other than lurking in the forum. I am halfway between being excited for the new season and reluctant to jump into it all again, so I think I need to get past that and just really get stuck in. I'll be happier if I'm busy on it again, I think. Also we have some new people, and some just moved around, so we need to do clear deliniation of roles and all that. I need to actually step up and organise some, which is what I'm (not) paid to do!!

I've been on the dragonfly a lot lately, not sure why, but it is nice there. I kind of miss actually being on threads at TWOP, and it feels like a safer version of that - which is I guess what it was meant to be! Oh old TWOP, how I do miss thee. Even Whimsy is pretty dead nowadays. Also to do with the dragonfly, I downloaded The Time Machine off Project Gutenberg so maybe this month I will actually read and discuss the book. In the past something always seemed to get in the way of me doing it, whether it was obtaining the book or the chat being at a bad time for me (or the middle of the night). With the book now in hand and a brand spanking new simul-reading thread, I think I'm out of excuses.

Speaking of reading, it's weird but every book I've read lately has had this really familiar feel, like I've already read it before. And yet I know that it hasn't been true for any of them. It's a really weird, kinda deja-vu-ish feeling. I don't get it. Oh, Rach, except the shoe book! That was really cute. Not great literature, but cute. I ate it up! :)

I was going to do that meme that [livejournal.com profile] filo77 tagged me for, but it's now past 6 and I no longer need to answer the phone, so I think I'll off home instead. There's a Murray match half-done with my name on it, so Wimbledon is once again calling! Maybe I'll do the meme while I watch that...

Um, hello all.  I just wanted to expound quickly on the wonder that is NaNoWriMo.  Seriously.  Today was a normal day.  I went to work, I worked hard, I had a meeting in the afternoon, I did some taxes.  And then after work I went to a NaNo write-in.  And it was truly awesome.  I mean the after the write-in was.  The write-in itself was good too.  I wrote about 3000 words, which is good because I didn't write yesterday.  And my story is moving along and all that.  And it was at the British Library, which is a very inspiring and cool place to be writing.  But the really cool thing is that afterwards we went to the pub.  And about four of us sat there for three hours.  We were silly, we drank some, guys bugged us, but most of all we totally bonded.  I got to talk about fandom in real life!  Harry Potter fandom!  Heroes fandom!  Supernatural fandom!  Gilmore Girls fandom!  It was awesome.  I met someone who posts on TWoP!  I realise I am sounding ridiculous right now, but I never get to talk about these things in my real life.  I actually told people about the virtual season and they understood what we are doing.  So I lift my hat, to [profile] teaatsix and to [profile] basilm (and also to Saramoo, who doesn't have an LJ account) for being incredibly awesome!  Yay to you and yay to London, and hey, yay to NaNo for bringing people together.  :)

Oh yes, and my wordcount...
