At some point here I'll stop naming entries after Panic! and MCR lyrics, I promise. :)

So, I've spent part of the last week and a half learning to do podfic, which is awesome! I had tons of help/suggestions/feedback from [livejournal.com profile] podklb, so huge props to her. I've been wanting to give it a try for ages, but I wasn't quite sure how to get started. So when she posted about a multifandom project in her journal, I jumped right in.

The project was for [livejournal.com profile] halfamoon (a fourteen day challenge celebrating female characters in fandom) and we were using fics from The Awesome Ladies Ficathon. It's comment fic, so all the podfics are pretty short. The anthology contains 73 stories, from 41 fandoms, performed by 19 readers.

I ended up reading six fics: 2 Gilmore Girls (1 Literati, 1 about Lane!), 2 Gossip Girl (1 Blair/Serena, 1 about Nelly Yuki), 1 Daria and 1 Parenthood (about the Amber/Haddie cousin relationship). I love all the fics I read, and I can immediately think of people on my flist who will like various ones of them, so go check them out!

You can download the podfic (in various forms) here!! What are you waiting for?

I am definitely keen to do more podfic, but I'm not quite sure where to start. Do any of you ever listen to it? What fandoms? I listen to quite a bit, it's great for commuting, which is why I was so interested in the first place. I know there are various communities for podfic of different fandoms, but I need to do more research. At this point, I can't even think how you start to pick out a story to do, with all the fanfic that exists in the world! Any of you have any stories you have written/read and are just dying to hear in podfic form?

Okay, I just saw [livejournal.com profile] shiningartifact's post about the very same thing, and she's given the individual download links for her stories. I've got some time on my hands (ha!) so why not?

If you want to just download my individual stories, links & info under here. )

Quickly dropping by to pimp the latest episode of the virtual season, which will air this Tuesday. I just finished reading it to write the promo (below) and it's such a cute one. I knew this one was going to be good as soon as the storyline was finished, but it helps that it has some talented writers on it, in the form of [livejournal.com profile] filo77 and [livejournal.com profile] jewelsverne.

And if you aren't reading the virtual season or don't know what it is, well then shame on you!! Check out http://virtualgilmore.squarepins.org/ right now.

Episode 9.19 Something Old, Something New, Something Black and Something Blue

At the Dragonfly, plans to cover Lorelai's duties are finally going into overdrive. The discussion of such important decisions leads to exactly what you would expect - sniping and arguments amongst the staff. Thankfully, the atmosphere elsewhere is a little lighter, as romance is in the air! Two of Stars Hollow's finest are going on their very first date, and farther afield, Paris and Doyle's big day is upon them. Of course Rory has her Maid of Honor duties to think of, but a favor she does for Kevin threatens to derail her best laid plans. Whatever happens, we promise you something old, something new, something black and something blue!

Airs Tuesday, April 28, at 8PM EST

Man I should really really be asleep right now.

Here we are again, second one of the year. Getting this up on the 13th and all, so that’s very impressive. (To me only, probably.) It’s Friday too, and I’m off home any second. Well, off to meet Debi for dinner anyway. [Ok this is no longer accurate since I am back home now from dinner, sitting on Seb's bed watching Gilmore Girls. But oh well.]

Post 12 pics of your day, and then link back to Chad, who started it all!

1) ALL PHOTOS MUST BE TAKEN ON THE 12TH OF EACH MONTH.

2) After you post your pictures onto a webpage of your choice (Livejournal, typepad, MySpace, Flickr, etc...) please post the TIME, LOCATION, and A SMALL COMMENT on the pic.

Couchsurfers and Boardgames and Gilmores, oh my! )

The Virtual Season is back from hiatus. It's a great episode, so you should all read it!

9.10 "Dates, Baits and Movie Greats" written by [livejournal.com profile] sosmitten23 and [livejournal.com profile] olivia_jane74

It only took Adina and I ten minutes to post tonight. Sometimes that magically happens, other times stuff goes wrong and it's a long drawn out process where I'm on gchat for an hour (or two). Funny how that works.

Also, my bro has not yet called to say he got back okay. I was trying to wait and not go to sleep until he did...
jenepel: (GG: Virtual Season Support)
The first episode of the virtual season airs tonight! This is the culmination of a whole lot of work - brainstorming and story-mapping over the summer by the entire team, as well as some super organisation from our head writers [livejournal.com profile] jewelsverne and [livejournal.com profile] robinpoppins. Also, check out the complete redesign on our website done by our webmistress (why does that sound dirty?) [livejournal.com profile] adinarj!

Episode 9.01 "Unhitched and Unhinged"

The Gilmore Girls are back, in an all new season premiere. There are plenty of secrets in the air, as the Gilmore/Danes family gathers in celebration, some special guests come into town, and Stars Hollow plans something without Luke and Lorelai. Basically, everyone's trying to keep it together so they don't get too unhitched and unhinged.

READ IT HERE!

p.s. Thanks to whoever it is on our street who has unsecured wireless; thus allowing us internet until we manage to set up our own!
p.p.s. Special shout-out to [livejournal.com profile] iamseb for helping me with a random missing line of code...
p.p.p.s. And um...[livejournal.com profile] basilm was here too. Yay for supportive new house-mates!

That is all. Enjoy!
jenepel: (Buffy: Willow "bored now")
So I'm down to about half an hour before I'm leaving work, and I totally fail. I'm so completely bored and I don't think I can do any more taxes. I've had a really productive day, and my boss left like an hour ago, so I think I'm gonna forgive myself if I quit and write an LJ entry instead. (Plus, I gotta say it's impressive, given that I got about three hours of sleep last night...although not surprising.)

What I should work on is my ficathon entry, which is nowhere at the moment, still scribbling on a page and a few random paragraphs in my head. It's due next Monday, which gives me one week. For my first ever ficathon, first ever full length fanfic. Ab-fab. So yeah, maybe I'll scribble more on the tube today and then actually write something tonight. We'll see I guess.

Otherwise, life is as was. I'm pretty much over the VS thing, which was probably mostly me and my paranoia, and discussion there is proceeding as per the normal. I do need to think about other organisational things regarding that, so that I feel as if I'm accomplishing something other than lurking in the forum. I am halfway between being excited for the new season and reluctant to jump into it all again, so I think I need to get past that and just really get stuck in. I'll be happier if I'm busy on it again, I think. Also we have some new people, and some just moved around, so we need to do clear deliniation of roles and all that. I need to actually step up and organise some, which is what I'm (not) paid to do!!

I've been on the dragonfly a lot lately, not sure why, but it is nice there. I kind of miss actually being on threads at TWOP, and it feels like a safer version of that - which is I guess what it was meant to be! Oh old TWOP, how I do miss thee. Even Whimsy is pretty dead nowadays. Also to do with the dragonfly, I downloaded The Time Machine off Project Gutenberg so maybe this month I will actually read and discuss the book. In the past something always seemed to get in the way of me doing it, whether it was obtaining the book or the chat being at a bad time for me (or the middle of the night). With the book now in hand and a brand spanking new simul-reading thread, I think I'm out of excuses.

Speaking of reading, it's weird but every book I've read lately has had this really familiar feel, like I've already read it before. And yet I know that it hasn't been true for any of them. It's a really weird, kinda deja-vu-ish feeling. I don't get it. Oh, Rach, except the shoe book! That was really cute. Not great literature, but cute. I ate it up! :)

I was going to do that meme that [livejournal.com profile] filo77 tagged me for, but it's now past 6 and I no longer need to answer the phone, so I think I'll off home instead. There's a Murray match half-done with my name on it, so Wimbledon is once again calling! Maybe I'll do the meme while I watch that...
jenepel: (VM: narrating my life)
So this morning I woke up with Britney Spear's "Piece of Me" in my head. It was one of the songs on our party-mix. (Don't judge! The mix encompassed many genres.) We used my ipod for the party, and since I haven't quite gotten around to reorganising my music since I got a new one, we just erased everything and put the mix on there. So right now my ipod is totally unfamiliar to me. Very strange. So, anyways, I put on "piece of me" when I got on the tube, and right after it "lucky" came on (there are only 4 Brit songs on there out of almost 800) and it really made me sad. Look at the contrast between those two songs, which really deal with the same topic (celebrity) - I mean neither of them are necessarily positive, but "lucky" is more of a story that's pointing out that she needs real life too, and "piece" is a diatribe against all those who presecute her. They are saying similar things, but there's so much more anger in the later song. Sad.

And so. Real life instead of Britney songs? Um...

For your sanity and friends pages I just cut the whole thing )

And now back to work. Some guy came in today who needs 2003-2007 filed. I'm almost done - one year to go! - so better get back to it.
jenepel: (GG: Taylor squee!)
There's just been a super-long chat to add onto all the ongoing forum talk, and this is the result:

We've been dancing around the question but, after a series of long and drawn negotiations, management and the writers have come to an agreement that will allow us to bring you a virtual season nine!

Robinpoppins and Jewels will be taking over very enthusiastically as head writers and they are firming up the team so that the planning can begin. Jenepel will stay on board as producer and Adina will continue as webmaster and graphic designer. Sosmitten will remain on the team in a lead writer role.

Stay tuned for news, including a premiere date!

Just a drive by posting to say that I got to my parents' house and what was waiting on my bed? The Gilmore Girls Complete Seasons Set!!! I'm SO excited. I totally plan on starting with the pilot and watching all the way through - I wonder how long that will take me, between other things I'm watching? I'm pretty happy with it, although to be honest it's a bit weird. The case is actually foam padded. And as I've said before, I don't like the artwork as much as I do on the individual season sets. But it's so lovely and compact! So that in the end, wins for me.

Also, one little annoyance that happened last night. The second season of Bones finally downloaded, so as a reward for finally packing I was going to watch the first episode before going to bed. I was at least ten minutes in before I finally had to be like "this CAN'T be the right episode". I had no idea what was going on. And the worst thing of all is that now I'm totally spoiled for a really important shippy thing. Cut for S2/S3 Bones Spoilers ) I'm usually not a huge spoiler-phobe, but in a case like this where I would have never known and it would have been so nice to watch organically develop, it makes me really mad. Plus, now I have to wait and download the first episode again because I hate watching things out of order. (I did check a few of the others and they seem to be the right ones.)

This was supposed to be a short entry!! Whoops. Anyway, I'm home and I've got my Gilmore Girls. Plus, tonight was already fun. My (sorta) friend from highschool who I haven't seen SINCE highschool is staying with us with her boyfriend, and they're both really cool. And we went to the first party tonight and had tons of fun, although we (and the bride and groom) were the youngest for miles. And then tomorrow, ceremony and big party! Yay.
jenepel: (GG: [quote] hate early)
So about an hour ago I was talking to [livejournal.com profile] adinarj on googlechat, and I told her I was going to bed.

And then I didn't. (What a surprise.) But I kinda think she might be okay with how I spent my time. :)

I did this meme instead. I took it from [livejournal.com profile] barkinmad.

1. Pick a character, pairing, or fandom you like.
2. Turn on your music player and put it on random/shuffle.
3. Write a drabble related to each song that plays. You only have the time frame of the song to finish the drabble; you start when the song starts, and stop when it's over. No lingering afterwards!
4. Do ten of these, then post them.

I did Literati - Rory/Jess. This is a rare opportunity people! I never write fanfic - only original work. In fact, this is the first FF I have ever written. I have no idea what prompted me to do it (probably just sheer boredom), but there you go. So click through if you've ever wondered what my writing is like! (Oh, and un-betaed, un-edited, obviously.) The artist and song title inspiring each is after the drabble.

Clickie )

And now I'm going to sleep for about three and a half hours before I have to get up for work!
jenepel: (Juno: guitars and stairs)
(Sorry - I couldn't resist.)

So this is me jumping on the Juno bandwagon with a great big leap.  A little bit of time after the party here, but I don't even care.  After much delay, [profile] basilm (Rach) and I went today to see it.  I have a whole lotta love for this movie, which I pretty much expected.  But oh how I wish I had seen it knowing nothing.  It definitely took away from it to be so aware.  This is the kind of movie that would be so great if it snuck up on you from behind - you having no idea where it was going or why.  Instead I have four plus months of anticipation and plot spoilers.  Ah well.  Also, I watched the final pretty pretty scene with the lovely pan-out, and I was like "oh, I need an icon of that".  And behold (*points to icon*) the magic.

In other news, I seem to keep getting birthday presents, weeks after the real day.  It's so great; it's like we're going to stretch my celebration out forever!  Today Rach brought me this awesome journal that she had made - with quotes and cutouts.  Oh, and also a mix CD.  And yesterday [profile] teaatsix brought me Hello Kitty ice cube makers, which we squeed over, and also a marshmallow candy thing that I ate today.  (Yum!)  And a few days ago, Juliet (flatmate #2) randomly gave me Benefit lip gloss.  Just a mini surprise gift.  I love it!

PLUS, there are two things coming in the mail - from [profile] adinarj and my bro.  Yay for continuing bdays!  Also coming in the mail?  The COMPLETE GG seasons!  I finally broke down and ordered it, since it didn't look like amazon was lowering the price anymore.  It drives me crazy b/c I could order the separate season sets for $20 each, but I've waited this long so that I could have the complete package, so I'm having it, darn it!  It needs to get here before River visits though, because otherwise what will we watch?!

Meh, I don't know what else for now.  I guess I should go to bed.  I'm going to the Embassy tomorrow to turn in some paperwork, so it will be cool to see everyone.

Just wanted to say there is a new episode of the virtual season up.  It's the Christmas episode, and Rory is finally home, so it's a fun one.  As always, it's here and our community is [profile] ggseason8.

And the fun story for the day.  This morning I was late (okay, I'm late like 90% of the time - good thing my office is flex).  Anyhow, as I was walking to the bus stop my bus started to pull up behind me.  This happens a lot, and usually I catch it, but this one was a long shot.  So I'm running pell mell up the street, in my skirt and tall black boots I might add, and trying to make it.  I get to the bus and the doors close on my face.  I yell and start to run to the front doors so the driver will see me.  (It's a bendy bus - you can get on at any of three door points.)  As I am running again, he opens the doors.  So now I am in between doors 2 and 3.  I run to the next set and then do a quick stop to get on, and promptly fall flat on my bum.  Full bus of people, looking out the window and EVERYONE sees.  I still need to be on the bus, so I get up and get on quickly before the doors close again.  Then I have to do a walk of shame all the way to the back to get a seat.  Lovely.  I really think I fall down more than a normal person should.  And in London when you fall, someone will see you.

In good news, I just found out that my very oldest friend and her husband will be passing through London over Christmas and so will spend it with my family.  They bought their tickets and they get here on the 20th!  Wow and YAY!  Also, my bro will be home and I have a week off (thank you Mr Bush for giving us government employees Dec 24 off).  I can't wait for Christmas now!

8.06  How Rory Got Her Groove Back

Stars Hollow is buzzing as Kirk solicits advice about a very special plan for Lulu.  Meanwhile, Luke is frustrated by lack of time with his girlfriend, but she's dealing with craziness at the inn in Sookie's absence.  While Lorelai is feeling overwhelmed, Rory is starting to find her feet, both with her writing and her colleagues.  Perhaps it's finally time that Rory got her groove back?

Airs Tuesday November 13, at 8 PM EST.

1.  Tonight a few friends and I went to the Globe Theatre to see Loves Labours Lost.  I can't believe I've never done that before.  I've been on the tour (way back when they first re-built it) but never to a show.  It was so fun!  The play was really great, and just the whole atmosphere of it was cool.  Plus, it was only £5 because we did the standing tickets.  We were groundlings!  That kind of added to the whole feel of it, but man did my feet hurt after three hours standing!  (Especially after a full day at work.)  During intermission we actually all sat down in the dirt, and we weren't the only ones.  I don't know what company does the Globe (I'm trying to remember if they actually have an in-house company) but it was very traditionally done.  I don't know either if they ever do adapted Shakespeare.  It might be the point of the experience to do it the way they would in his day (although they used women) and the whole bawdy wink-wink style was very fun.  So full thumbs up for the whole experience.  I'll definitely go again.

2.  I watched the new episode of Heroes but I don't feel ready to comment yet.  I think I need to watch it over, because right now I'm just "wow!" and incredulous noises.  Seriously.  THIS SHOW!

3.  I took a Heroes personality test and got Eden.  I'm pretty happy about that because I think she's way cool.

4.  New promo for the virtual season.  (I'm actually really having fun writing these!  It's pretty much the only "creative" thing I'm doing for the season since the brainstorming part is now over.  Otherwise it's all editing and emailing and organisation.  Which is all fun too, but still...)

Episode 8.03 : Whoa,  Nellie!

Next week on Gilmore Girls...  A visit from April leads to tension between Luke and Lorelai, Sookie and Michel come to blows at the inn, and Emily and Richard vent to Lorelai about their lack of contact from Rory.  But their granddaughter has other things on her mind -- like an unhappy editor, an unfriendly colleague, and an unexpected twist in a new friendship.  Whoa, Nellie!

It will air Tuesday, October 9th, 8PM EST.
jenepel: (GG Where you Lead)
I always post it everywhere else and then forgot to post it here!  Although huge apologies to anyone who is part of the [profile] ggseason8 group, and also has [profile] sosmitten23 , [profile] adinarj  and I all on their flist - it means you get massive spam on Tuesday nights!

Soooooo....episode 8.02 is up.  GO READ IT!

Rory's coping with unexpected criticism from her editor and Lorelai is dodging continued calls from Emily, but both girls find a bright spot in new relationships. Lorelai is slowly starting over with Luke, while Rory's making a friend on the road. The girls agree: nice boys bring you coffee, good ones bring you home!

It’s finally time!  Next Tuesday, September 25th, is our season premiere.  The first episode will go live (linked from [profile] ggseason8) at 8PM EST.  Stay tuned for...

Episode 8.01 - Into the Great Wide Open

Rory’s on her way out into the world and Lorelai’s adjusting herself to life in a world without her daughter by her side.  While Lorelai spends some quality time with Luke, Rory spends her first day on the job at a Quality Inn, and doesn’t get quite what she expected.  For both the girls, it’s a venture into the great wide open.
jenepel: (Default)
I have been totally obsessed with Literati fanfic this week - not sure why.  It's been ages since I read any, but then I watched the ep where Luke and Rory go to see Jess at Truncheon and I got all obsessed with "what if she hadn't said all that about Logan and they got together again" and started looking up stories, and then there we were...

I FINALLY saw OoTP last night.  I was actually a little disappointed, probably mostly because I just reread the book this week and also people kept saying really good things about the movie.  I think my expectations were a little high.  I want to write out a proper response to it but don't have time right now.  My main complaint?  NOT ENOUGH GINNY.  She's my absolute fav and she really comes into her own in that book, but they didn't show that at all.  It's a crime.

They have just announced the release of the full series DVD set for GG (here) and I am not happy with the artwork.  I've waited for ages not buying the DVDs (ok I had the downloads, but still) and then they change the artwork for the full set?  I reserve judgement til I have seen it in person, but it doesn't look promising!  It looks kind of tween-ish to me, and I quite liked the season sets.  BAH humbug!

I saw a mouse in our flat today.  Seriously, a mouse.  It ran across the floor and into a hole in the wainscotting.  I didn't scream or anything though, just calmly watched it go and then went downstairs to tell my flatmate.  I mean what can we really do about that?  Traps?  It's such an old house and there are several flats here, so I can't see it really happening.

My trip to Atlanta has hit an interesting complication - I may be going sooner than I thought.  I was supposed to fly out on Wed but now I might leave on Sun to deliver stuff for work to an office there for a trial that starts Monday.  They are all going crazy about it getting there on time and then suddenly someone remembered I was going and an idea was born.  It only remains to be seen if they agree to pay the $860 (I KNOW) that it would cost to change my ticket.  Insanity.  I hope so much it works out though, because although I am not remotely ready, I would get travel comp and also work hours for mon/tues since I was supposed to work them anyways.  Plus I would get three more days of holiday - fantabulous!  Does anyone live in Atlanta btw?  I keep meaning to ask people and posting it but no one seems to.  What's up with that?  Also I will be in Colonial Williamsburg for two days for a wedding.  Should be interesting...

I just have to end by saying HAPPY FIRST BIRTHDAY TO OLIVER - only the cutest baby in the world!  He's my little (unofficial) nephew and he's such a sweetie.  Picture under the link.
