3 years!

I just realised that somehow in the craziness of April I managed to steamroll right over my three year LJ-iversary. So yay for that! I haven't really been in fandom for that long, have I? (Although I guess all the TWOP stuff predates it - I was on there since 2002.) I would do some sort of meme or something to celebrate this, but frankly I can't be bothered. Oh how blase one gets in three years. :)

Also, there was an election. Probably I should have mentioned that in the last post, since it was, you know, kind of important! But hey, I flailed enough about it on Twitter, I think I'm out. Also, other people have made far far better posts then I could on the subject. It's fascinating though, and will probably continue to be so now that a coalition has been sorted and we actually have a new PM (no matter how ugh inducing he is). Bring on the re-election I say! (But not before a bit of electoral reform - here's hoping.)

And now I'm off to Kew Gardens to spend the afternoon with a few of my old Embassy co-workers. I worked crazy hours yesterday so I could manage this afternoon off, so I'm gonna enjoy it. (DON'T RAIN!)

Today is my two year anniversary with LJ! This is obviously an occasion to be celebrated, so Rach and I have cracked open a bottle of wine. (Hahaha! You're funny if you think we need a "reason" for wine.) I looked back over my history, but it seems that last year I somehow managed to miss this very important milestone and didn't post. Or I posted a few days later about it. But what was I doing this time last year? For one, dealing with the flat situation from hell, which if you've been with me this long you probably remember, seeing as it took over about three months of my journaling because it complely ruled my life. Beyond that, I also found a lovely quote from this entry, which is really pretty much perfect:

"I finally got to see [livejournal.com profile] basilm since it seems like it's been an age. She and I enjoyed a fabulous meal prepared by [livejournal.com profile] iamseb on Friday night, including (of course) much wine. And then we proceeded to talk into the night and make (possible) plans for the beautiful house with a garden that we'll all rent together in North London once everyone gets out of their current lease/ gets funding/ gets back from Serbia. Keep the dream alive!"

And thus Awesome Manor was foretold!! That's a really fun quote to read actually, knowing that it all came true. I'm just surprised it didn't mention a kitten.

So what am I doing this year at this time? I feel like you probably deserve a cut here, for length if nothing else! But you should click, it's totally worth it. )

Bad news that I heard today: Simon Amstell isn't coming back to NMTBuzzcocks next season
Good news that only slightly makes it better: Noel Fielding is joining as a team captain
WHY COULDN'T THEY BE ON AT THE SAME TIME; THEY ARE HILARIOUS TOGETHER.

I found this fantastic queer reading of HSM the other day - definitely worth a read. Actually it's not a full reading, most just some history and then discussion of the baseball song. But I've been looking for something similar for a while, so I was excited to find it. Seriously though, if you're seen the second movie, the baseball song? It just BEGS for that type of analysis.

Sorry that this entry is kind of all over the place. But now, since I'm being completely random anyway, a few pics I've been holding onto forever!Random Picspam! )

And now Rach has gone up to take a bath and I need to do dishes, but I do hope you enjoyed this monumental entry! Oh! The title. I was actually pretty depressed last night, and I think my cheeriness tonight really proves that I need to be around people to uplift my spirits. I get maudlin if I spend too much time by myself. I had picked this title out last night, and my mood now is miles from what it was, but I'm still gonna use it. It's from the Journey song in this extended promo for Glee an upcoming show on Fox. If you haven't seen that promo, do yourself a favor and watch it NOW because it is made of awesome.

LJ-iversary

So I'm at work, which is not so great since it's a Bank Holiday, which means the ENTIRE COUNTRY is off today. Except me. However, I find myself strangely cheerful despite that. For one thing, it's my own fault I'm working - I traded it for next Monday so that Rach and I can go to Athens next week. So there's holiday coming at the end of the week. Yay! For another, the tube was EMPTY this morning, which made for a great commute, and Bruce has been in and out all day, which means I'm mostly unsupervised. Not that I'm not working (and um...updating LJ - shut up, it's lunch time!) but it's a lot easier to work when he's not bugging me about stuff all day.

Also, I remembered something that I had planned to post about last Sunday, and am kinda sad I missed. It was my one year LJ-iversary! Yes, I haven't been on here for years like some of you people. My first entry was April 27th, 2007. It was all mostly at the urging of [livejournal.com profile] adinarj and I have to thank her for that, because I love LJ! It brought my incessant journaling to a wider audience, and also got me addicted to icons. Lovely.

Not much else. I had a nice relaxing weekend. I finally got to see [livejournal.com profile] basilm since it seems like it's been an age. Keep the dream alive!

I'm also dog-sitting for one of my friends at the Embassy, so that means I get doggie cuddles (and the use of a big screen TV) for the next few weeks. And a friend (of a friend) from the States came through for a day so we hung out and strolled around South London with the dog, then stopped for a crepe. She was so good too, she just sat under our table and watched the world go by. (The dog, not my friend!) And then today, work. Which I really should get back to...
