jenepel: (Nanowrimo: "Keep Calm")
Possibly I'll never write a normal off the cuff entry again? Or is that too crazy to say? :) I have started this entry five billion times (it keeps giving me a "saved draft") so here, have some waffling!

A baffling mix of old and new! )
jenepel: (GoGi: Blair "alone")
I don't know why, but I'm all worried this week. There isn't even one particular reason or anything bad happening, I just seem to have this general feeling of unease. It's very strange. Partly it might be the upcoming US trip, which I am in no way ready for, and yet I leave in just over a week. I don't even know what I particularly need to do to be "ready" for it, other than the usual nonsense of packing and sorting out computer backups and such, but somehow it just seems to have snuck up on me. Maybe because it feels so soon after I got back from South Africa? IDK. I guess it is a bit up in the air in general b/c I am flying standby and still don't have the dates quite set, and also my friend Drew (who is giving me the AA pass) will not answer his freaking phone so that we can plan some more. Argh.

I've been worrying a little about money too, mostly because I seem to be spending a lot of it. I think it's just coming on the heels of the World Cup trip, and now planning my US one. Hopefully it won't be super expensive, but three weeks away (without pay) is just that, and you can't deny it. And then I've been looking at iphone plans (thinking about getting a business plan actually, since I'll be using it for that too, we'll see) and telling myself how it really is a complete and total luxury expense. Then there's the fact that I really want a new computer, but can't really justify that considering mine is only 3.5 years old and still works. Tom (current subletter) actually offered to buy it the other day. I don't even know how we started that conversation, but the possibility now will not leave my head. And I have shopped a bit lately (I NEVER SHOP) and got some new shoes for the wedding, and some other bits and pieces of things that I kind of needed but that still felt a bit decadent, b/c, IDK, spending money or whatever.

And then, on the subject of subletters, we have house type worries. Our lease is up in just seven weeks, which is really an outrageously short time, especially considering I won't be back until the last month of it. We have no idea what Amy is doing, thus we don't know if we need to fill one room (if she stays) or two (if she leaves), and whether one of those will be sublet for a while (if she stays to November) or filled completely. And there are other possibilities for people who might want to move in, but at the moment I kind of feel like none of them are actually going to happen, so we're gonna end up scrambling for strangers. Either way, we have at least one room to fill, and there is no way Claire and I (and Sarah) can cover rent if we don't get people in both of those rooms, so that NEEDS to be sorted soon so that we can put up ads or whatever else. In general the whole situation is FREAKING ME OUT. I am just so tired of continually having to worry about moving, or finding a new place, or finding new people to fill our current place, or whatever. I really just want to buy something and live there for ages. But again with the not so financially viable or sensible yet. Maybe in a year or so? (So yeah, anyone know someone looking for a room in London starting in Sept? It's an awesome house, really.)

Plus, on the incoming money side, B keeps cutting my hours at work since we're not too busy at the moment (off season), which is just really frustrating. I know it's essentially what I agreed to when I said I would be a contract employee (and there are other benefits), but I also remember at the time being worried about this exact thing and him reassuring me that it wouldn't be a problem because "there was always work to do". Yeah, so we see how that turned out. So mostly, working less hours but still coming in every day sucks, although it makes me feel a lot less guilty about extending the days of my US holiday even more. It also makes me feel bound and determined that I need to be set up SOON with a website and email and etc so that I can properly start advertising on my own. I'm just so sick of depending on B as my main job, I'm antsy to get more freelance. But then I start worrying about my EA exam, which I have not scheduled and am not doing a very diligent job of studying for, and I freak out again. It's a vicious, evil, and stupid cycle.

On top of that, I've just been feeling really alone. Mostly I just kind of float along, and to be honest I've been single for so long that I'm pretty independent and not so good at dealing with giving over control to anyone else. (This may have possibly tanked potential relationship in the past - I can be super stubborn.) But with all these worrying feelings, sometimes I just want someone else to kind of take over and tell me that it's okay and I'm being silly or whatever. Because in my head I know that there is nothing too bad going on in my life right now, but that doesn't really help on an emotional level. I just kind of wish I had someone to relax and let go with, and just snuggle and be calm. I have more specific feelings about it, but they just make me berate myself for being an idiot in various situations, and not knowing my own mind, so that's not helpful. I'm not sure all of this even makes sense? Maybe I just miss my mom (in the US) and [livejournal.com profile] lazyclaire (in France)? I certainly seem to have gotten pretty emo now that Claire isn't home to take care of me and give out her (really fantastic) hugs. :)

Wow this was a lot of whining. Sorry about that! How about some pictures to take our minds off it all? It's not my July 12 of 12 (coming, maybe?) or even the World Cup pics (still haven't gotten them onto FB), but instead a link to pics some other people kindly posted. :)

I spent last weekend in Devon at Beth's parents' house, at a kind of bonding/goodbye extravaganza for Nick and Julie. It was pretty wrenching for them to actually be leaving (back to the US) for good, but the weekend was, frankly, pretty idyllic. See for yourself...

Sorry these pics are kind of huge, but I'm linking from locked FB and can't figure out a way to resize. )

Why yes, it is the 25th and I'm just now posting my pics from the 12th. But look on the bright side, at least I'm posting them (!) unlike Jan & March (when I took pics but didn't post) or Feb & April, when I didn't take pics at all. Small steps people. If you care to see the Flickr sets for those two months, sans commentary, then here they are: January (some experiments with close up shots although I don't have a macro lens) and March (mostly my dad in hospital that I was documenting to send to my bro).

SO...12 of 12! AGAIN! FINALLY! Here's hoping this re-starts the trend.

Post 12 pics of your day, and then link back to Chad, who started it all!

We never actually set foot in Kew Gardens. )

That's it! Pretty lovely day overall, and sheer luck that it ended up being the 12th. The next few months look good for it too, but once it gets back to falling work days I'm not sure what I'll do. It's easy to feel uninspired on a work day after doing it for over a year. There's only so much of my commute I can document, you know?!
jenepel: (Hairspray: Can't stop the beat)
It's almost 3AM and I have to work tomorrow and I just cannot seem to make myself go to sleep. Instead I'm messing around on Twitter and AIM and reading fanfic and whatever else I can do to waste a little time. I'm still on such a high from the Adam Lambert concert.

Seriously, you guys it was SO AMAZING! He's incredible live, his voice sounded great, he was so funny talking in between, the crowd was insane, etc etc. I can't believe it's over and done with, because it just went so quickly. He did: For Your Entertainment, Music Again, Strut, Whataya Want From Me, Sleepwalker, Fever, and If I Had You. And just because I'm bored and don't want to sleep yet, have some pics from the concert.

Sleepwalker? (not sure)

So yeah, pretty awesome. Also awesome? Random fan meet-ups. We got into the venue a few hours early (the line was AROUND THE BLOCK - people had lined up in the morning or something??) and so we had a bunch of time to kill before it started. The crowd was a bit weird, not proper gig-ish exactly, all bunched to the front and super intense. Anyway we stood around talking, etc and then this girl behind [livejournal.com profile] silly_cleo and I started talking to us (I think asking about support acts? if there was one?) and then said "so are you guys from the internet?" We pretty much just looked at each other and cracked up, because how do you even respond to that? But yes, indeed, we pretty much are, if LJ and Twitter and goodness knows what else are any indication. I was a little worried she meant the Adam fansites, since EVERYONE I have met so far has been from them. But no! She meant LJ! And Kradam! So we chatted, and then went for LJ names, and it turned out she was [livejournal.com profile] bexless (*waves hi*), which um, OMG amazing, b/c HELLO HER FIC! But I feel I have flailed enough on this in person and possibly in Twitter after ([livejournal.com profile] risti and I are not subtle) so I won't do it here.

But I love that! A random person in the audience behind me was a fanfic writer I like and respect, and also turned out to be a totally funny awesome person to kill an hour or so with before the show. There was much squeeing, discussion of AI fic and bandom (shut up, AI RPF IS A GATEWAY DRUG) and various other fannish pursuits. (Also Bex can you tell me the LJ name of your bf? Because we totally forgot it.) Good times were had by all and etc. (Also you guys go read her fic - this one especially (Apples are not the only fruit) b/c it's a classic.)

One more thing, a very un-awesome thing that happened at the end of this all. Basically I am an idiot. I borrowed Isla's camera today for various dumb reasons, and then of course did not use it at all b/c I was too busy, you know, enjoying the concert. But what I did manage to do was crack the screen. I seriously couldn't see ANYTHING (you guys I am 4'9") and so I decided to give myself another two inches by standing on my bag. Stupidly I did not remove anything (including Isla's camera, my ipod or my phone) from said bag. And guess what happened? The only thing not belonging to me got broken. So I guess I owe Isla a new camera. TOTALLY SUCKS. I hope she isn't too mad at my sheer idiocy. So yeah, not the best end to an otherwise awesome night, but certainly a reminder that I DO NOT THINK despite supposedly being a grown-up. Ah well.

In conclusion, yay fandom! I will now allow myself to read one fic and then go to bed. :)
jenepel: (VM: Veronica with camera)
Luckily, this 12th was a Saturday, and even luckier, it was a Christmas party! [livejournal.com profile] carawj and [livejournal.com profile] cosmic_llin had a Christmas extravaganza at their flat, which included mulled wine, apple crumble with custard, and the Muppet Christmas Carol - good times were had by all. Unfortunately, I was feeling pretty terrible, so spent an unfortunate amount of time collapsed on either the couch or the bed. And then I spent all of Sunday in bed, so that was great. But anyway, you can't really tell I was sick from the pictures...

Happy Christmas! )

Man it is so freezing in this house! Our timer has the heat going off at 11, so by now (2AM) it's just frigid. I'm all huddled under the covers, but my extremities are not happy. I think it's only hovering just at freezing right now, but it feels about that cold inside too. Urgh. I read somewhere we might have snow this weekend, but I totally don't believe that.

Look at me, in the middle of Nano, still managing to post my 12 of 12 pretty much on time. Of course, I haven't written anything today yet. (We'll see.)

It's mostly Nano pics this month, no surprise there. )

And, scene! It's Sat afternoon and we're deciding what to do tonight. We were supposed to go out to this club/art space closing out thing, but everyone is kinda half sick and moping around, so it's looking like it might not happen. There are just so many things to get done too. Plus, I'm right at yesterday's wordcount, no buffer, so if I want to keep up my goal of never being behind this year I need to write for an hour and a half. But it's 6pm! Ergh. We'll see.
jenepel: (VM: Veronica with camera)
Lo! it is the 15th and Lo! I am posting my 12 of 12! Well, it's a start anyhow. This is a bit of a back to life, back to reality month, since it's all normal again after holidays and moving and such. No city beaches and glass boxes in the sky here! Which is a reference to my Sept 12 of 12, which may have been mostly missed because I posted it like, a week ago and never put it on Chad's page. So if you're interested, that's here: yay Chicago!

Cats! Roller Derby! Netbooks! )

So there it is. A 12 of 12 posted kind of on time! I'm sitting here on the couch watching Gossip Girl with my housemates. Awesomely, Nick is totally addicted, so we've been working our way through season one. Fun stuff.
jenepel: (VM: Veronica with camera)
I was totally exhausted at work today, because Kaite ([livejournal.com profile] ladyvivien) is in London for the week (yay!) and stayed over at ours for the night. I met up at Million Monkeys (writing group) with her, [livejournal.com profile] lazyclaire, [livejournal.com profile] silly_cleo and [livejournal.com profile] apotropaios, which was fun, especially as I've never met Cleo but have heard lots about her from Kaite. (*waves!*) I think we scared/impressed each other with our LJ-stalkeryness about equally, so that worked out alright. Anyway, after dinner and a bit of a wander in downtown London, we hopped on the tube for home. Claire and Kaite and I then proceeded to stay up until 2AM with girly gossip and a neverending game of Trivial Pursuit. It was good times, but man was I tired today!

But anyways, actual life info aside, here it is, the point of this post, only three weeks late - my 12 of 12 for September. I am really going to have to get better at posting these! I've done a terrible job these past two months. (And this one is actually even later!) As I said before, I want to post these for completeness (and really, what does it matter when it goes up?) and so here it is, my 12th 12 of 12 in a row! A full year. Yay me. And (as I was just thinking the other day) with my new house and new commute and all, it's perfect timing to shake up my weekday 12 of 12's a bit. The old trip back and forth to Awesome Manor was getting a bit stale. :)

What's that you say? I haven't blogged about the move at all so you have no idea what I'm talking about. Riiiight. Actual updates is the next step, but at least I got this up. I'm not even unpacked yet. Baby steps people!

I must warn people that there are pictures of us standing in a giant glass box off the side of a building under here. So, um, no one freak out! It turns out okay. (No one was harmed in the taking of these pictures...) )

So that's Chicago! Or one day of it anyhow. I have tons of pics from my whole USA trip that I really should get up onto Facebook at least, but I think we all know me well enough to despair of that ever happening. Right now all I'm hoping for is to have my room unpacked and cleared up and decorated before Nano descends. Because there goes November! And then it's Christmas, and then it's 2010. Ah geez. Also, after all my complaints about going to bed late last night, look what time it is now. Whoops.
jenepel: (VM: Veronica with camera)
Oh geez this is so insanely late. I wouldn't bother putting it up, except that 1) I did take the pictures and 2) I don't want to break my streak of 12 of 12's. Next month will be my last one for a full year, so that would suck not to get this up. So here you go...

Unfortunately a very uninspired day. )
jenepel: (VM: Veronica with camera)
It's super late, and I'm not yet caught up on my sleep from my trip, but if I don't do this now I may never do it, so I've decided to just suck it up and post my 12 of 12. Claire is over, so she's writing for NanoJuMo, thus we can sit here and work together. Helen just left - we're on day two of our Harry Potter movie marathon. They met me at Awesome Manor once I got home from the airport last night, and we did 1 & 2. Then tonight it was 3 & 4, and tomorrow we'll watch 5 just before going off to see 6 at the cinema! Yay! Of course if the UK cinemas were doing midnight showings I would be in the 6th film RIGHT NOW, but I'm trying not to dwell on that.

Right. So my 12 this month is of the EXIT music festival in Serbia (http://eng.exitfest.org/) which I was at from Thurs-Mon this past weekend. I had tons of pictures, although to be honest a lot of them were pretty bad since the music takes place mostly at night and my camera didn't cope too well. It makes for an interesting timeline for the 12 though, as you can see from the timestamps.

12 of 12: June 2009

I'm in the midst of packing, etc because I leave in about two hours, but I wanted to post this before I'm off. From what Kathleen said, there won't be many chances for me to be online while I'm gone.

No times or anything because I'm in a bit of a hurry. )

Pretty nice Friday overall! And now, a couple weeks hiatus while I'm on holiday. See you all on the other side!!
jenepel: (VM: Veronica with camera)
This was perhaps not the most inspired day, picture-wise, but a relaxing one because after work I just went home and slept. When you tell people something like that, they say "well, you must have needed it!" and usually I scoff, but this was one of those days when I think I actually did need it. Long weekend helping with carnivals and such. :) The worst thing about sleeping so long is that I completely missed the Eurovision semi-final. SUCKAGE! My dad even called me to remind me that it was on, but I guess my phone was still on silent from work. Add that to the fact that I have a party to go to on Sat night (sorry [livejournal.com profile] ladyvivien!) and I'm definitely not doing well with Eurovision watching this year. I am trying not to be too depressed about this fact.

There are THREE Nimbus photos in here - aren't you excited?! (ETA: And also my new haircut for those who wanted to see it.) )

And that's it people! See you next month.
jenepel: (Random: Nimbus cutest)
So many things to tell, so little time!

I have a ton of new icons - I am actually at my icon limit right now, which never happens because I like the feeling of space. But I'm sure some of those will fail out at some point. Part of the great influx was a request batch by [livejournal.com profile] visualthinker11 which included the Nimbus one above. How freaking cute is my cat? Seriously! I forsee a lot of use out of this one.

I had a super busy weekend, or at least it felt like that at the time, although now that I try to think it doesn't seem like it. It was our first May bank holiday. (OMG and I'm taking this Monday off too, plus we have another at the end of the month. Oh the decadence!) I didn't have anything really planned though, except room cleaning. Friday was unexciting, I came home with plans but then fell asleep around 9PM - shocking! :) But that was good, because Sat I went out to meet up with some friends of friends (long story) and ended up staying out until 6AM.

Blah, blah, blah I am a whiner. )

So Sunday/Monday. Um, Sunday Kaite and I watched hours and hours of Joan of Arcadia. And I'm sure more stuff happened. But I can't think of it now. Monday (thank goodness) I finally got some work done. I bought these shelves at Ikea because my room has been insane for ages now, and I need a place to organise. So I spent most of Monday sorting through the six boxes/suitcases that I hadn't unpacked since we moved in, um, 8 months ago (true) and then having Seb help me make my shelf so I could start to fill it. And then while I was at it, I decided to change my room around. I have a lot more space now, although my wardrobe is slightly harder to get into. But so far it's working for me. Now all I need is to put pics on the walls!

Click to see new room setup! )

Those shelves aren't filled right yet, nor have the white plastic containers been gone through, but it's still an improvement. So yeah, yay for actual productivity! Not much else at the moment. I have a long post half-done, but it's taking me a while, so not yet.

In the best news ever, we are going to (box) karaoke tonight for the first time in ages. There has been massive squeeage about this in our house ever I booked the slot. We do love our karaoke. And it's a group of eight, so it should be a very enthusiastic time. Rach and Seb and I had a random flatmates dinner out last night, and as we walked back from Muswell Hill we (well, mostly Rach and I) sang any song we could think of, quite loudly, in preparation. I'm sure people thought we were drunk, but nope, we were just us. We were mostly silenced when, as we were belting out "part of your world" from the Little Mermaid, a schoolgirl went by us with a supercilious look. Mass giggling on our part, but it did send the singing down a notch. Too bad Lucky Voice doesn't really have any Disney songs though. Or musicals! What's karaoke without lots of musicals? Silly people.

I'll sing one for you all.
jenepel: (Friends: Pheobe "Just Happy")
Today is my two year anniversary with LJ! This is obviously an occasion to be celebrated, so Rach and I have cracked open a bottle of wine. (Hahaha! You're funny if you think we need a "reason" for wine.) I looked back over my history, but it seems that last year I somehow managed to miss this very important milestone and didn't post. Or I posted a few days later about it. But what was I doing this time last year? For one, dealing with the flat situation from hell, which if you've been with me this long you probably remember, seeing as it took over about three months of my journaling because it complely ruled my life. Beyond that, I also found a lovely quote from this entry, which is really pretty much perfect:

"I finally got to see [livejournal.com profile] basilm since it seems like it's been an age. She and I enjoyed a fabulous meal prepared by [livejournal.com profile] iamseb on Friday night, including (of course) much wine. And then we proceeded to talk into the night and make (possible) plans for the beautiful house with a garden that we'll all rent together in North London once everyone gets out of their current lease/ gets funding/ gets back from Serbia. Keep the dream alive!"

And thus Awesome Manor was foretold!! That's a really fun quote to read actually, knowing that it all came true. I'm just surprised it didn't mention a kitten.

So what am I doing this year at this time? I feel like you probably deserve a cut here, for length if nothing else! But you should click, it's totally worth it. )

Bad news that I heard today: Simon Amstell isn't coming back to NMTBuzzcocks next season
Good news that only slightly makes it better: Noel Fielding is joining as a team captain
WHY COULDN'T THEY BE ON AT THE SAME TIME; THEY ARE HILARIOUS TOGETHER.

I found this fantastic queer reading of HSM the other day - definitely worth a read. Actually it's not a full reading, most just some history and then discussion of the baseball song. But I've been looking for something similar for a while, so I was excited to find it. Seriously though, if you're seen the second movie, the baseball song? It just BEGS for that type of analysis.

Sorry that this entry is kind of all over the place. But now, since I'm being completely random anyway, a few pics I've been holding onto forever!Random Picspam! )

And now Rach has gone up to take a bath and I need to do dishes, but I do hope you enjoyed this monumental entry! Oh! The title. I was actually pretty depressed last night, and I think my cheeriness tonight really proves that I need to be around people to uplift my spirits. I get maudlin if I spend too much time by myself. I had picked this title out last night, and my mood now is miles from what it was, but I'm still gonna use it. It's from the Journey song in this extended promo for Glee an upcoming show on Fox. If you haven't seen that promo, do yourself a favor and watch it NOW because it is made of awesome.

OMG this is so insanely late. Um…blame the week of taxes! I haven’t had time, really I haven’t. But at least I took the pics. And it was not only a weekend but also a holiday, so good times. I was in Norfolk at my parents’ house, and Nimbus came along.

Usually when I do this I write notes as I do the html and then I go back and put proper descriptions in. But frankly, it’s 2AM, everyone else has gone to bed and we just got back from a Andy’s band’s gig, so I kind of can’t be bothered. I did most of this earlier today anyhow, so at this point I just want to get it up. I think you can tell what everything is from my notes, and I tend to go overboard on the info so a minimalist month is probably a good thing.

This 12th was the runup to Rach’s bday, which was the next day, so there were various types of preparations going on. Also, Kaite and Claire came over for dinner, baking and party prep. Somehow Claire didn’t make the picture cut, because the only ones I had of her (helping with my costume) were after midnight. Next time!

Here we are again, second one of the year. Getting this up on the 13th and all, so that’s very impressive. (To me only, probably.) It’s Friday too, and I’m off home any second. Well, off to meet Debi for dinner anyway. [Ok this is no longer accurate since I am back home now from dinner, sitting on Seb's bed watching Gilmore Girls. But oh well.]

So here's one I've had sitting half finished in a google doc for like a month now. Nothing like housecleaning, huh?

I know it's mid-Feb but I'm putting it up anyways because I like things recorded for posterity! It should be the best of the 12 of 12, but I only started in October, so for the rest of those months I just picked one picture from what I had in my files. It comes off a bit as an album of the traveling I did, but ah well. I tried to stick in some shots of things as well as people. My first inclination is to have all people pictures, but I think non-people ones are also interesting and change it up a bit.

I actually can't believe I didn't finish this up earlier. It was almost done, so I just had to tweak a few things really quickly. Typical! Life has gotten semi-busy again, in a social way. As in, I actually have things going on after work and stuff, which is nice but makes me scramble. I'm having dinner with a few people this week and next who I haven't seen for months, so that's great too. And my bday is in a week (next Tues) so I'm trying to plan stuff for the weekend after. I mean I have a half plan but I need to see if we need reservations and such. Also, we're diving back into couchsurfing again, so I updated my profile last week. We have two girls coming tonight for about four days, and then a maybe for a guy next week. I'm kind of excited to begin all that again. And yet, despite all that excitement, I've been seriously up and down lately. I'm not sure what's up with the constant moodiness, but I'm really ready to stop feeling so crappy and down on myself. For now, I'm blaming it on the weather and time of year.

We're on hiatus for the virtual season and I didn't even realise it! That's crazy, because usually I seem to be counting down to it. So maybe that's a sign that I'm feeling more in control of it all? I feel good about deadline reminders, and better about promos, and I finally sent out my big email, which was a bit anti-climatic. So for once there is nothing hanging over me there, which is great.

I've been listening to nothing but country music for the last week because [livejournal.com profile] insanityjones keeps making me mix CD's. It's been pretty great actually, rediscovering some songs from my childhood and then also hearing a bunch of brand new ones. I've subjected my housemates to some of it too, so that makes me happy.

Okay back to work...

I did this AGES ago when [livejournal.com profile] basilm first posted it, but then I lost where I saved the mosaic. Since I cleaned out all of my computer files this weekend (while we were watching hours of Buffy!) I found it. So here you go…

Instructions:
a. Type your answer to each of the questions below into Flickr Search. (Put it on “most interesting” for the best results.)
b. Using only the first page, pick an image.
c. Copy and paste each of the URLs for the images into fd’s mosaic maker.
d. Post the result in your journal.

I mock you with my monkey pants. )

Lookie here – posting on the 13th. Very impressive after last month’s debacle. :)

Post 12 pics of your day, and then link back to Chad, who started it all!

1) ALL PHOTOS MUST BE TAKEN ON THE 12TH OF EACH MONTH.

2) After you post your pictures onto a webpage of your choice (Livejournal, typepad, MySpace, Flickr, etc...) please post the TIME, LOCATION, and A SMALL COMMENT on the pic.

This was Trevor’s last day in the UK, so I took work off. I think that probably made for a more exciting 12 of 12 then it would have been otherwise. )

Okay, so it’s a little heavier on the cat pics than I would like, but it’s really hard to weed those out! This 12 of 12 is dedicated to my brother, who at this very moment is winging his way back to Atlanta. Curses!
