Boring Entry of Epic Proportions

I've had an extremely productive week, which would probably explain why the last time I posted was last Thursday. I meant to do a quick post on Mon/Tue detailing the weekend, and I never even got around to that.

I'm sitting here right now sorting computer files and watching "Can't Hardly Wait" which just happened to be on. I haven't seen this movie in a million years, and I'm getting shocked by all the people I recognize in it, most of whom are in totally random tiny parts. It's so weird. I kept seeing people, so I went to the IMDB page and was just blown away. Seriously, apart from the obvious main characters, you've got: Sean Patrick Thomas, Freddy Rodríguez, Donald Faison, Jaime Pressly, Nicole Bilderback, Jason Segel, Clea DuVall, Leslie Grossman, Eric Balfour, Selma Blair, Sara Rue, Amber Benson, Melissa Joan Hart, Breckin Meyer, and Liv Tyler. I mean, I saw a five second glimpse of Amber Benson - she's listed as "Stephanie, Stoned, Banana-holding Girl (scenes deleted)"! Craziness.

ANYWAY, as I said, I've been seriously productive, even today.

This morning I got up early (for me) and we (the three of us flat-mates) went to Barclays to set up our flat account. It took like three hours since we walked, and the lines were crazy long. Plus, we have to wait until their credit checks go through by Monday for it to be totally approved. I don’t know if I’ve mentioned it, but my other new flat-mate is called Katie, and she’s really very nice. But here’s the weirdest (most disturbing) thing about the trip. On the way home, Katie and I were wandering along looking for a drying rack, and we stopped into this little almost mall thing to check in Matalin (random store) but it was totally closed off with police tape all over, and officers outside it were handing out flyers. Riiiiiight. Turns out there was a MURDER there last Saturday. The guy was stabbed in the neck and died. Lovely. See, that is why I never go to Dalston Kingsland. I generally stay on the Newington Green/Angel side of my area!

So yeah, after that excitement, I came home and sorted out all the bills and paperwork that have been building up since we have lived here. It turns out that Nicola wasn't so very organised! We're still waiting on a few new bills, but I mostly got it sorted. And I paid the council tax, so that's good. Wouldn't want to get kicked out or anything!

I've actually been on a sorting jag this whole week. It's the time to do it, I guess, since I know what's mine, and everything else is things left behind by Juliet or Nicola. I did the whole kitchen, clearing cupboards, and also the fridge. Now I need to work on my own room! It's not exciting, but it makes me feel really accomplished for not being a bum for once. The other thing I've gotten done today is some of my freelance tax work. I've built a mini client base of my parents' friends (about five couples) and a few of mine (about three couples) whose taxes I have done for the past few years. It's a nice bit of money on the side, but it means I'm doing them by hand since I obviously don't get to use the programme at work! They're not crazy hard returns (rental properties, K-1's, foreign income and a house sale is as bad as they have gotten) so the doing them by hand thing is really good practice more than anything. But it is time consuming.

Speaking of taxes, we're also insanely busy at work, mostly because we are approaching the first tax deadline (April 15th). It's not the real one for overseas people because we get two months extra, but it still makes people nervous, so we've got a lot of agitated clients. I have a stack of 10-15 cases in my office, and yet this whole week I barely made a dent in it, because other things kept coming through that had higher priority. I got a lot of work done, but it wasn't the kind of work that gets me commissions, which is kind of annoying. In fact, I spent a large portion of Friday night venting (well, whining!) to [livejournal.com profile] basilm about that.

Yeah, so Friday night we went with another girl from work to see “27 Dresses” and it was actually really cute. I didn’t expect it to be as good as it was, which is always a nice surprise. Then it was early and we didn’t want to go home, so of course we went out for a drink. And I had a margarita! Yay! I need more cocktails in my life. Too much wine and too much beer. The rest of the night involved scotch and some card playing, but at least I managed to get home by 1AM.

This is me doing the week not in order AT ALL, so we’ll skip back to Thursday night. I went with Juliet and Johnny and another friend to see “Speed the Plow” at the Old Vic Theatre. It was Kevin Spacey and Jeff Goldblum, and very very good. Sometimes I think that you go to a show like that thinking they got the roles just because they’re famous and so maybe it just doesn’t turn out so well, but in this case they were totally great. I really enjoyed it.

So um, yes, that was this week.

As for Easter weekend, [livejournal.com profile] basilm went with me to my parents’ house. Seriously, it snowed. It is March. I can’t believe it snowed on Easter. It was really fun to show the Norfolk/Suffolk area to Rach – it’s so different than London. And we didn’t even really do anything that exciting, mostly we just spent a bunch of time with various friends of my parents and sat around a lot at their house, just hanging out and petting the animals. We were planning on going running (really) but the snow put a damper on that. We also went to base and bought many American items of food, which was very very exciting. Shut up. It was.

Holy crap I’ve been writing this entry forever. I think I started around 4PM and it’s now almost 4AM. I’ve just been writing it bit by bit as I did everything else. And the end result is BORING. Seriously, I wouldn’t advise actually reading it! :)

Hmm, just two tiny other little notes. Today I saw a preview on TV for Pathology, so it looks like it might have widescreen release here. Interesting. Also, the pilot season has come to the UK. Premiering within recent weeks or coming soon: Gossip Girl, Pushing Daisies, Chuck, Dirty Sexy Money and Mad Men. I’ve seen the first three, but I might try and watch the other two. We’ll see.

Okay, perhaps it is now time for bed?

ETA: CRAPOLA!! [livejournal.com profile] basilm has just reminded me that the clocks go forward tonight. Dang it! Stupid daylight savings time. That means it's actually almost 5AM.

ETA (#2): No, it's just 4AM. (sheepish) I guess my computer auto-updated and I didn't notice.
