Karaoke Awaits!

I'm still at work, and very annoyed. I got her at 8AM this morning, so I should have been able to leave early, however I’m still here, waiting for Virgin Media. We closed the flat account, so they were supposed to pick up our router and TV box today between 8 and 12. Well I called around 2 since they hadn’t come and the guy was all “oh, they have until 6 to come by” which totally isn’t true because they had given me the option of 8-12 or 12-6. But whatever. So here I am, still waiting. But it’s 20 to 6, so I kinda think they aren’t coming. And I’m supposed to meet people in the city at 6:30 for dinner – SO not happening. And now what happens? I call Virgin once it hits 6 and they give me a different day they can come by? What a complete and total pain. And how nice of my flatmates to be helping me deal with all this crap. Anyways, I’m totally bored and need to kill some more time so I think I'll bore you all in turn with the contents of my week.
I'm mostly moved out. I won't have to see the flat of doom anytime after this Saturday. Last Friday, Rach (
basilm) came over and helped me pack up all my stuff, because she is awesome. She brought every suitcase/bag she and Jessie own, which was impressive. It only took about three hours. (Thank you!) And then on Sunday my parents came into town with the Volvo Estate (American=station wagon) and helped me move all that stuff to Rach's living room. It only took two car trips, yay! And she and her housemates (one soon to be my housemate) have had to survive one week with their living room being almost eaten by my pile of crap. Lucky people. Then Shahid and I spent Monday cleaning, including a super super scrub of the bathroom. Some of it seems ingrained though! Then Wed night we did vacuuming, mopping, etc which we will redo on Sat. We also need to clean out the fridge and the oven. Blech.
I just spoke to the landlord one more time - he's coming on Sat to inspect, etc. I've called every utility company, etc and final bills are being sent to my work address. We'll do the meter readings Sat too. So it's finally happening! I'll just have to get those final bills to him with proof of payment and deal with the deposit and then that will be IT! How thrilling.
Also last weekend was Eurovision, which is one of my favourite TV events of the year. I actually looked last year, and I totally made an entry about it. I think that this year's was better though - a higher ratio of funny to stupid as far as songs go. The voting was as usual, but no big surprise there. There were Latvian pirates and Croatian 80 year old rappers and Azerbaijanian Angels versus Devils, plus many many costume changes! Eurovision is love, really. And Russia won. Their song was just meh, but they did have an Olympic ice-skater skating around the singer, so I guess they get points for that??
I went to see Indy 4 with Phil, Andy and John on Tuesday. It was pretty good, actually mostly what I expected. Not spectacular, but good fun and it moved right along. Now I just need to see Iron Man, which I'm looking forward to more. Most of the previews were crap but there was one for a new Will Smith movie that looked decent. And usually I hate WS movies! Weird.
Last night (as previously blogged!) we went to see Midsummer's Night Dream at the Globe. It was fabulous and a disaster all at once. Oh rain, red-wine and England!
Hmm, what else? My boss left for Spain yesterday, and he doesn't get back until Wed night, so I'm self-monitoring until then. But this weekend is just going to be so fun, so I don't even care about what's happening at work!
Tonight I'm doing karaoke with Nano!Sara and some of her friends, including her husband! Other nano-ers are coming too – Seb and Rach. It’s cool because we’ll finally get to meet Sara’s husband though. He's strangly reclusive, or at least he doesn't come to our events. But it could be that we are just scary en masse. So this is going the other direction – the Nano-er will be the minority I think.
Sat is a day for cleaning the flat out, meeting with the landlord for the penultimate time and moving my very last suitcase out. Then Jessie (new flatmate) and I are going to the party on the tube! Last time for alcohol and all that - should be interesting.
Sunday is my dad’s retirement party, so I’m going back to Norfolk for that. Also my best friend from highschool is coming to England for six weeks of her summer break (she works at a Uni) so that is made of WIN! She hasn’t met any of the Nano-ers, since last summer when she was here they weren’t even a twinkle in my eye, so that will have to be rectified. In fact, I don’t think she’s met A&A either, just Phil. Huh. Anyway, I have Monday off, so we’re hanging out then. And (in my head) we’ll make plans for when she’s coming to London!
My parents are off to the States very very soon – prob middle of June, so this might be the last weekend I see them before they leave. They’re going to see family (of course) but also to look at potential retirement states. First on the list is North Carolina, I think, but it does change all the time, so I’m not positive. Man that freaks me out. They’ll also get to see my bro, lucky people.
Not too much else. On the TV front I finally got around to downloading the end of the season of Gossip Girl. I forgot how fabulous that show is! And I’m totally addicted to Jacob’s TWoP recaps of it too. He takes this show that so many people just look at as a guilty pleasure, and makes it into this thesis like examination of social attitudes and manages to find something important in every single choice the producers/directors/writers/actors have made. Now THAT is the way to watch television!

Date: 2008-05-30 07:44 pm (UTC)I'm moving out right now too. I packed up a lot of stuff before I left, and then I'm going back to pack up the rest of my house next week. Sad. I already miss my freedom. I'm looking for jobs speech tech jobs right now (which is basically the only job I am qualified to do with my degree), to save up money for grad school, and maybe one of those will take me out of town.
I'm still so behind on Gossip Girl. I'm going to have to download it from my TiVo before I unplug it and bring it home with me.
I haven't seen Indy4 yet. Everyone saw it without me on Sunday. Ugh. But, I did see Prince Caspian Wednesday night and that was good. We were thinking about seeing Sex in the City next week, since no one seems to go to the theatre on Wednesday. It was completely empty.
I'm rambling a lot, sorry. Back to your regularly scheduled program...

Date: 2008-06-01 12:20 am (UTC)I want to see Sex and the City too. My new flatmate and I (how exciting!) went out tonight and we were talking about going together, so hopefully that will happen in the next few weeks.
Download GG!! It's so awesome - Michelle Tractenburg!
I love a rambly comment, since I do tend to leave them myself (as you well know).
p.s. Icon love!
