You want a piece of me?

So this morning I woke up with Britney Spear's "Piece of Me" in my head. It was one of the songs on our party-mix. (Don't judge! The mix encompassed many genres.) We used my ipod for the party, and since I haven't quite gotten around to reorganising my music since I got a new one, we just erased everything and put the mix on there. So right now my ipod is totally unfamiliar to me. Very strange. So, anyways, I put on "piece of me" when I got on the tube, and right after it "lucky" came on (there are only 4 Brit songs on there out of almost 800) and it really made me sad. Look at the contrast between those two songs, which really deal with the same topic (celebrity) - I mean neither of them are necessarily positive, but "lucky" is more of a story that's pointing out that she needs real life too, and "piece" is a diatribe against all those who presecute her. They are saying similar things, but there's so much more anger in the later song. Sad.
And so. Real life instead of Britney songs? Um...
Wimbledon started yesterday. I hate that I can't even watch it since I'm at work. I've been listening to Radio 5 live, but it's not quite the same thing. The first set of Venus's match today sounded great; I wish I had seen it! I really want to go for a day but we'll see. It's a bit hard to take a day off this week since I'm taking July 4th off next week. Maybe I'll go Sat instead, but that's always such a crush.
Our office extension is finally finished, so today we did a bunch of moving files and sorting paperwork so we can get ready to shift offices. My boss is moving into the extension, and then I'll get his office, which is nicer then my current one. I also get his desk, which I'm really excited about, since I love it. It's a glass top, very pretty and large, and it also has a perfectly placed rail to put your feet on. Considering I currently have my feet propped on a cardboard box I procured for that very purpose, that fact makes me happy. Hey, I'm short! He is getting a new desk, but I don't even care, because I have coveted his current desk pretty much since the day I started working here.
Now that I have finished Everwood I need a new show. I just randomly watched a few VM episodes this weekend, so I'm actually really feeling that at the moment, and might keep going. Ages ago when I got the 3rd season, I started over at the very beginning to do a whole season rewatch, so I just picked up where I was (Betty and Veronica) and we'll see how far I get. Also, I could start watching American Dreams again, and finish that up. Or there is our Gilmore Girls full season rewatch, but I'm a bit ahead there. When I was house-sitting,
basilm and I had a marathon (she had never seen the show) and we got through Double Date. The discussion is only at Love&War&Snow so I've still got a bit of a cushion there, and it's going slowly. At this rate it's gonna take us like three years to do the whole series! Also I totally dropped Friday Night Lights, but I have the first season DLed, so I could finish that. Maybe I'll put them on my ipod for the cummute - it worked for Everwood. And I really want to see season 3 of Bones, but I was having such trouble downloading it that I got really annoyed. Anyone want to upload all of them for me?! I kept getting Spanish versions that weren't marked. So basically I'm all over the place. And I just bet this paragraph was fascinating.
Last night
iamseb and Jessie and Bridget and I went to a random pub (called the Mucky Pup! they let in dogs!) to play pool. I played a bit, not that well, but did make one really nice shot to end a game. I'm gonna say it was mostly (all?) luck, but I got clapped, so that was exciting. We need to play more pool. It's really fun. And I'd like to be better than I am. Which is to say I would like not to suck at it.
I've been very annoyed recently about the fact that I can't play region 2 DVDs on my macbookpro. I downloaded VLC ages ago but it doesn't work for me (I think my DVD drive is too new) and there seems to be no other solution except firmware. This is making me very frustrated and is probably going to end in me buying an external drive. It's so stupid! All my DVDs are legal! And our TV is so old that it won't hook to my dual DVD player so I can't use that, rendering every region 2 disc I have currently useless.
The other thing taking over my life is trip planning with
basilm. I asked for (and got) two weeks off at the beginning of August, so am going to visit her in Serbia. We are planning a many country trip through Eastern Europe, but the specifics of trains and planes and buses mean that we keep changing where we might go. Hopefully an itinerary will be settled in the next few days and I'll book some flights for the beginning and end. Right now it looks like this (all trains except the London flights):
London-> sofia, bulgaria-> plodiv, bulgaria-> istanbul, turkey-> other turkey-> thessaloniki, greee-> ohrid, macedonia-> skopje, macedonia-> belgrade, serbia-> novi sad, serbia-> budapest, hungry-> London
Okay so it's a bit insane. We might cut out Macedonia and Greece to spend more time in Turkey. I don't know! More on that if we ever make any decisions.
And now back to work. Some guy came in today who needs 2003-2007 filed. I'm almost done - one year to go! - so better get back to it.
