After the VS stuff got posted last night (in record time, no problems, yay we rock!) I sat up and watched The Office (too cute) and then Gossip Girl. And as I lay in bed trying to go to sleep, I was seething with reactions. So I feel the need to give a character by character assignment of blame.

Ms Carr - First of all, can I just say how ridiculous this woman is? I mean I understand that she's young, and obviously feels an attraction to her students - not necessarily in a sexual way, but in that "I want to be your friend" way that a lot of young teachers fall into. But you CAN'T DO THAT. You have to maintain distance. You should definitely not be meeting them out of school hours and having coffee and breakfast and cosy little chats and letting them call you by your first name. (Okay, I'm willing to bend on the first name thing if it's at school and it's ALL your students and just what you want to be called - but Constance doesn't really seem like the place for that to me.) Anyway, basically she was already over the line and just asking for something to happen. Even taking aside the last five minutes of the episode (IDIOT) she just didn't behave well. Above all, she should NEVER have agreed to meet with the very boy that there was a rumour about, all on her own just before the freaking parent/teacher meeting. That was just stupid. She made this big deal about how she and Serena needed to meet out in the open and everything, and then met Dan inside a coffee shop? The woman has no sense at all. I'm not saying it should have cost her the job, but I am saying she needs to start making smarter choices. I also think she engaged Blair on a personal level, which was a bad idea. In this situation she is the adult and the teacher, and she needs to be the one above reproach. And then there is her classic ending scene where she totally jumped Dan. He's a wuss, he never would have done anything, so that one is on her. Yeah she (thought) she had lost her job, but, um...he's still only 17.

Blair - Well we all know I love B and her drama so it's hard for me to judge her here. Obviously she was out of line but frankly it was pretty par for the course. I think just putting in a rumour to GG was pretty bog standard actually, not very creative and then it didn't even work. Of course she just repeated a mistake she's made a million times; she should have stopped when she was ahead (after the community service), but no, she just had to get her revenge. Blair usually comes out on top (BECAUSE SHE IS THE SHIT) and so she feels invincible. And this time...well she still pretty much did. Basically she just lucked out though. I'd like to think she'd take this close call (and also her issues with her dad) and use it to inform her future decisions, but that might be too much to hope for.

Serena - Pretty blameless actually. She did get hurt by the entire situation, and she had reasons for all her actions. They gave her a good errand to follow Ms Carr, and then it did look bad from what she saw. Perhaps she should have held back and not given the picture to B, but besties and all that, plus she was hurt. I'd say she gets a bye. I'd also like to note that when she went to talk to Ms Carr, she said "I hope we can still be friends", which, SHE'S YOUR TEACHER NOT YOUR FRIEND. There need to be boundaries in these situations.

Dan - Blech. Well I'm not his greatest fan actually, and he was predictably annoying this week. He didn't do anything truly wrong until the five minutes at the end, although I will say that he should never have gone to meet Ms Carr in the coffee shop after the rumour. However (as stated above) she was the grownup, so that blame rests more fully on her shoulders. Also he totally sold out B, which was harsh. I thought we were beyond that for them by now. The rumour didn't hurt him, and it probably would have been discussed and dismissed, so did he really have to make it a larger mess than it already was? And then, after everything else he went to her flat! Actually, the fact that both he and S went to Ms Carr's house/flat at the end just shows how inappropriately comfortable with her they were.

Quellar - I thought she was a bit harsh on her punishments, but maybe that's my Blair bias speaking? It's just...well Yale is the next four years of her life, leading to who knows what. It's pretty extreme to take that away over one small text, no matter how toxic. It's not as if B has a record like S does. Before Quellar appeared, we were led to believe that her record was spotless. So what does she have now? Being at the pool party thing and then these two things against the new teacher - hardly "losing your entire university future" kind of black marks.

Chuck - I wasn't really a fan of this random subplot. If we can't have Chuck interact with Blair and the rest of the kids, having him with Lily (like last week) is a good substitute. But this silly private club stuff just left me uninterested.

Jenny - I want more Jenny!

Eric - Where was he?

I do want to stress that I don't have any issues with teachers and students being close, or being supportive of each other. I was a teachers' kid, so I always knew everyone I took classes from, and obviously saw them quite a bit outside of school as well since they were in my parents' social circle. But I do think (particularly when teacher and student are so close in age) that there are social parameters that need to be considered. You should be aware of how your actions look to the outside world, and you should know that in this day and age it's dangerous to encourage intimacy like that. MAKE SMART CHOICES PEOPLE! You can give a kid feedback on his stories, and have good chats with him, without meeting him somewhere random for breakfast! Okay, I'm done.

Lastly, I've got to say how much I adore how they consistently dress everyone in such bright colours. My favourite thing is always the tights, but I also love the jewel tone coat colours. I mean look at Blair's minions in this cap:

Lovely!

So evidently we don't get another episode until MARCH. I might not survive. I am so in love with this show right now, even though the last few episodes have been disappointing, they're still better than anything else I am watching. YES SERIOUSLY THEY ARE.

I'm not reading the spoilers, I'm not reading the spoilers! *hands over my eyes!*

Anyways, I'm sure we'll find time for a recap' before freaking MARCH! Though, now I think of it, it's only a month away. Wow, time flies! Give me call/text whenever you're free so we can have tea and possibly start + do you want to do something on Sunday? Kaite says her Sunday is all mine.

I covet that icon too, but it's too distinctive to steal. Also, I have too many already. So are we down to either Sunday or Friday then? On Friday we're supposed to be doing pizza night at our place, Edd is coming I think? Although no one said we couldn't invite other people. :) Or I could ditch them and hang out with you guys! When is Lola back Kaite?

(We could be doing this over email you know!)

Is it my fault I can't organise for shit?

Oh. yeah, turns out it is *facepalm*

I am baking CHEESECAKE because Jane Seymour says you should cook for the person you love and she's been married four times and has six kids, so she should know.

Just tell me whenever you're available. All shall be forgiven if you you just save me a teensy weensy piece of cheesecake. And give me your recipe :)
