12 of 12: July 2009
It's super late, and I'm not yet caught up on my sleep from my trip, but if I don't do this now I may never do it, so I've decided to just suck it up and post my 12 of 12. Claire is over, so she's writing for NanoJuMo, thus we can sit here and work together. Helen just left - we're on day two of our Harry Potter movie marathon. They met me at Awesome Manor once I got home from the airport last night, and we did 1 & 2. Then tonight it was 3 & 4, and tomorrow we'll watch 5 just before going off to see 6 at the cinema! Yay! Of course if the UK cinemas were doing midnight showings I would be in the 6th film RIGHT NOW, but I'm trying not to dwell on that.
Right. So my 12 this month is of the EXIT music festival in Serbia (http://eng.exitfest.org/) which I was at from Thurs-Mon this past weekend. I had tons of pictures, although to be honest a lot of them were pretty bad since the music takes place mostly at night and my camera didn't cope too well. It makes for an interesting timeline for the 12 though, as you can see from the timestamps.
Post 12 pics of your day, and then link back to Chad, who started it all!
1) ALL PHOTOS MUST BE TAKEN ON THE 12TH OF EACH MONTH.
2) After you post your pictures onto a webpage of your choice (Livejournal, typepad, MySpace, Flickr, etc...) please post the TIME, LOCATION, and A SMALL COMMENT on the pic.
12:05 AM - Novi Sad, Serbia
This is a quick handheld shot of the three of us - the guy (who you probably haven't seen before) is Rach's boyfriend, Edd. I believe that this was during Moby's set on the main stage. I was less then enthused by him, but the people around us were extremely excited. It turns out Moby is very very popular in Serbia!

2:58 AM - Novi Sad, Serbia
Again on the mainstage, this time watching Grandmaster Flash, whose set was from 2-4AM. This was actually an unexpected highlight - I didn't know much of what it would be, but basically he just mixed a lot together and got everyone excited and dancing. Rach and I were fading a bit after Moby, but we pretty much danced and yelled and sang from start to finish on this one. Also, he kept telling people to get their arms in the air, which is what I was trying to show in this picture. As Edd said, it was a very crowd-pleasing set, a bunch of old school (old "skool"?!) hip hop, dance and R&B that I remember from my school days. He also started with a Michael Jackson tribute, so I'm sure that helped get the crowd on his side.

4:43 AM - Novi Sad, Serbia
Having made the long trek (30 mins!) back to camp, our tents now await us. Mine is the pink one - I love it!
3.
11:21 AM - Novi Sad, Serbia
TEA! The only cup of tea we had the entire time there, and not too good really. But I think at this point, any tea was welcome. We had gotten up "early" (6 hrs sleep) because there was a Danube cruise we wanted to go on, but in the end it didn't work out - something to do with the moving of the campsite and the changing of times?
4.
2:53 PM - Novi Sad, Serbia
Instead we just ended up chilling out at the camp for hours. This is the little enclave of shade that we made by our tents, along with Rach and Edd writing journals. You can see my notebook on my mat beside them - that's the place I vacated to take the pic. After this we ended up hanging out at the reggae area and playing cards/napping.
5.
6:09 PM - Novi Sad, Serbia
Walking into town, Rach bought a new hat and then Edd bit it. As you do.
6.
7:18 PM - Novi Sad, Serbia
Dinner! Yum.
7.
8:51 PM - Novi Sad, Serbia
Going in to the fest for the night - Rach and Edd entering.
8.
9:00 PM - Novi Sad, Serbia
This is the map of the entire festival area, listing all the stages. It's in a fortress that overlooks the Danube, so it's a pretty great atmosphere. The stages are all in various high and low places in the fortress, and it definitely took me a while to figure out my way around.
9.
9:28 PM - Novi Sad, Serbia
Just to prove we didn't spend all our time on the main stage! This is one random act we caught as we were wandering - a rock choir on the Suba stage.
10.
10:19 PM - Novi Sad, Serbia
We went back to the main stage and met up with Rach's Serbian friends - Jelena and Milan. They live in Novi Sad, so they can get cheap tickets, and thus they go every year.
11.
11:10 PM - Novi Sad, Serbia
Madness! Our first main stage act of the evening, and so much fun! They were super enthusiatic and of course lots of really fun music. (Gilmore people - I can't help thinking of Lane getting the cheerleaders to dance to "One Step Beyond" - they opened with that.) Unfortunately a head cut off the sign (typical of my viewpoint at this type of stuff) but I like the light flash in the pic so I chose this one depite the tall guy.
12.
And DONE! Now for bed. Harry Potter tomorrow - yay!!
