Insane Night

So I feel a bit weird writing this when I know
lazyclaire is going to read it later on, but she told me to write something on LJ to kind of bring the London people up to speed, so here I go.
We just spent the night in A&E (the Emergency room) because Claire had a seizure. And I mean a real, proper, just like you see on TV seizure. For her sake I won't go over it exactly, but I'll say it was full body and went on long enough that we were all completely freaking out. I dialed 999 while Julie and Amy tried to get her to wake up and focus. She was breathing at least, but even when they got her to focus she wasn't talking and she seemed to have no idea of what was going on.
Anyway, long story short, Claire and I rode in an ambulance and then spent about six hours waiting as they did various tests (Cat/CT scan, electroloid stuff, taking blood, etc) and asked us five billion questions. She got better and better as we were in there, remembering more of the day and starting to talk a lot more. (A quiet Claire is a scary thing.) They finally got us up to a ward around 4AM, miraculously not kicking me out, and she went to sleep. Luckily I have insane chair sleeping skills. :)
This morning they told us they wanted to keep her until later tonight, possibly as late as 10PM to make it a full 24 hours. And then they told me visitor hours started at noon, so I left Claire sleeping and am now home. Either me or another housemate will go back in a bit and check on her.
I don't want you guys to worry - she's doing fine now, she was really coherent this morning and remembered everything except the seizure itself. They didn't seem worried, the CAT scan came out completely clear so there's no bleeding or anything. They also seemed to have no idea what caused it, but they said they would keep doing tests on her as an out-patient (over the next few days?weeks?months?not sure) in order to monitor her and see if they could find out more. There's no family history or anything, so at the moment it's a great big question mark.
So yeah, big night. Not something I ever want to go through again. I was completely terrified, and yet trying to be a grown-up and hold it together in order to keep her mind off it so she didn't freak out any more then she already was. Scary stuff.
Now I'm gonna crash out for a while so I can check on her and see how she's doing in a bit. She has her phone if people want to text her (calling prob not a good idea), although if she's sleeping I don't know if she'll check it. Call me if you want though.

Date: 2010-01-20 09:01 pm (UTC)I hope Claire's feeling tonnes better now, and it was just a random one off thing. And if you guys need anything - a hug, distraction, or someone to talk to, you know where I am, OK? Any time of the day, as I said. Work is flexible and they understand if I come in late or need to run and deal with an emergency - which friends count as.

Date: 2010-01-21 06:32 am (UTC)A friend of mine back in Canada has them for unknown reasons too. He's not allowed to drive or that because the doctors don't know what causes it.
I hope Claire's feeling ok, I've got a crap memory when I'm at school but I'm going to try to remember to text her when it's at a more reasonable hour (as I don't think 6:30 is very reasonable at all)
