Halfway between Heaven and Hell

I had a really wonderful weekend. Like, a truly shiny and happy, grinning every time you start thinking about your life kind of weekend. And somehow, now that the week is here (it kinda began late Sunday night) I have been catapulted sideways into this terrible maelstrom of stress, which I truly do not appreciate. Every time I stop and think about the month ahead of me I start to practically hyperventilate and freak out, and that’s with it not having even started yet.
It’s a combination of things, but mostly just that Script Frenzy is about to start and
lazyclaire and I are the MLs for London. It’s silly, because I did sign up for it, and I do want to do it, but it’s APRIL. And I know what Nano feels like, how much time I give to it in November, and I’m just suddenly freaking out because I don’t know if I can give that amount of time during this month (one of our busiest at work) and add on the fact that I am supposed to organise stuff TOO. I’m looking at Script Frenzy + MLing + craziness at work + freelance work at home = Jenn goes INSANE. So we’ll see how that goes.
But this WEEKEND! Oh man, I cannot even start! It was just one of those times when things just come together and everything is fun. I mean it pretty much had to be awesome, because starting out I left work a little early on Friday and met ADAM FREAKING LAMBERT! Seriously, pictures and a proper post about it to come, but in short I met him, took a pic, watched him bowl (yeah IDEK) and met some other fans who were (thankfully) not insane. (And with Adam fans, that is a danger.) It was a lovely evening, capped off by dinner with a few who were hanging about. Then
lazyclaire and
silly_cleo and I spent a few hours (until 3AM or something) making five bazillion dozen cookies for the SF kick-off parties. (Snickerdoodles, Choc Chip, Choc Chip Walnut, Oatmeal Raisin, Oatmeal Choc Chip) And the Snickerdoodles worked for once! We’ve been trying to make them for an age with recipes that substitute cream of tartar (b/c it doesn’t exist in the UK or something?) and finally I broke down and bought some last time I was in a US store. Result: perfect Snickerdoodles!
So Sat was the first kick-off, which went decently. We could have had a better turnout, but it is SF, not Nano, so I really need to manage my expectations! I think we were pretty welcoming to everyone, no one sat in the corner not talking, and the cookies went over well. Plus we did a fun “name that movie quote” kind of game that Claire & Cleo thought up. So, decent start to the month. I’m hoping our numbers will expand once we start the write-ins. Unfortunately, the stuff we had ordered for giveaways (tshirts, stickers, etc) hasn’t gotten here yet despite shelling out $30 for shipping and ordering it two weeks ago. Annoying.
Anyway, after the party, I was supposed to go to Edd’s bday thing, but it was at 8 and it was only 6ish so I had time to kill. Frank had been late to the party so he suggested a drink – everyone else went home but we decided to have one anyway. It turned out to be a totally awesome decision, because we were still sitting talking a few hours (and drinks) later when I realised I was completely late for Edd’s thing. (I mean not awesome that I was late, but that we had a good talk.) We made for the tube, and then somehow decided that he should come along, and then after further discussion, that he should crash at our house, since I was the only one home for the night and he had to be in early for a shoot that was near our house but acres away from his. We found Edd’s people, but they were moving from pub to club. We stood in line, only to be the last ones at the front as they closed the ropes. We debated for a minute, but since we couldn’t see any of the people we were with or where they had gone, and neither of us had eaten all day (seriously, cookies!) going in w/o food seemed like a BAD idea, so we bailed. I feel a bit guilty (hi Rach!) but it was just bad timing overall. Anyway we went back to mine, grabbing kebabs on the way, and proceeded to sit up talking until about 3AM. It was a pretty perfect night. I really love getting to know someone better, and London doesn’t give you much chance for one on one interaction unless you’re either living with someone or dating them.
Frank had to get up early the next morning for the shoot (poor boy – he paid for all that talking!) but I could have a lie-in. I went to meet Daniel in the afternoon for our arranged movie double feature. I really wanted to see Crazy Heart and he really wanted to see How to Train Your Dragon, so we put them together. Turns out that both were awesome, and they made a surprisingly good combo. I was crying by the end of CH, and all nostalgic for TX too, and then HTTYD was just so fun and silly and well done that it changed my mood completely. Daniel convinced me a month or so ago to get a Cineworld Unlimited card, which is as many movies as you want for $16.50 a month, and it’s AWESOME. Considering that a movie costs around £10 downtown, you just need to go to two to make it worth it, which is easy. Now I just need more of my friends to get the cards so I have more movie partners!
So um, yeah, nothing exactly spectacular happened (other than Adam, of course) but it was just a really fun, satisfying weekend. Unfortunately, I came home Sunday night to the reality of everything else, which kind of sucked. I’ve gotten a lot of freelance stuff done over the past two days, so that’s good at least, but I’m still very nervous about Script Frenzy and the time it will require. Funnily enough, I actually have my thing half-way plotted. Amy and I made a deal (long story) to write half plots for each other (basic turning points & character sketches) which we then had to write. It worked out well, and we traded them last week, so I’m armed with the first half of my movie already plotted. I just need to figure out the rest. I love the idea because I got a plot I wouldn’t necessarily have done, but that fits parameters that I gave her, and I’m not even a teensy bit burnt out on it, because I’m not the one who did the leg work to get there. I like the idea of writing to someone else’s prompt – it should keep things interesting.
Um yeah, so I should stop and get home. I’m writing this on my work computer b/c I needed a bit of a break before I jumped on my commute to go home. I hate that it takes me an hour now!
Oh and also if you're even slightly interested in Kradam, you should all be reading this - or be drowned in blissful confusion - which is a totally amazing HS AU that I am in love with. Beware though, WIP. (I'm sure all three of you who are Kradam-inclined on my flist are already reading it, but I feel the need to rec anyway, so there.)
