Just dropping in for a mini movie review.
I just finished watching High School Musical 2 (total guilty pleasure viewing!) and it was pretty cute, although not as good as the original. Of course when I finished the first one I was like "oh that was pretty cute"; it wasn't until a week later, when I had listened to it like crazy on my ipod and then re-watched it, that I was all "oh, it's this generation's Grease, it's awesome!" so let's give this one a week or so and then we'll see.
I think this second one made me think a lot more of Dirty Dancing, and I wonder if that was intentional. I mean if they are trying to give nods to old "classic" musicals then it's pretty obvious the first one relates to Grease. It's set at a HS, a new girl comes in to the school and starts to almost-date a guy from another clique, which leads to fighting between the cliques and them not being sure if they should be together, only to culminate in a final dance scene where everyone is a big happy group. And this new one is totally Dirty Dancing. It's got the summer country club, fighting between guests and staff, people almost getting fired through sabotage because they are dating someone a guest is interested in, and a big talent show at the end that ends with the staff coming from the back of the room and dancing up to join the show.
The only other comment I have is that after watching it I really think that Kelsi doesn't get enough credit. I mean I'm glad they were happy that Ryan put the show together and all, but Kelsi wrote all those songs. She's like 17 and technically (between the two movies) she's had like 10 hits. She's totally a genius (pop) composer. Girl needs an album writing deal! :)
p.s. I switched out a few userpics. There are so many others I want to use - I need a bigger account! See this pretty (shiny) Kaylee one?
